FASHOLA………..the right man in the right position.
Yes I know I have big
eyeballs and they are big enough for a blind man to feel its wide stare. This
was the case this morning when I came face to face with the Governor of Lagos
state, Babatunde Fashola. The Governor was present for the 32nd
SYNOD held by the Lagos State Diocese Anglican Communion ‘Our Saviour’s
Church’, TBS Marina Lagos.
I welcomed the
Governor with my blazing glare and my mouth wide open with a resounding wow!
which got his attention and he looked at me and I could interpret his
expression in Yoruba saying…….hehehe omo yi o ri gomina dis close ri live and direct……..lol!
jokes apart I was lost in shock while he just walked by me with his security
guys and that was when I snapped out of my amazement and by the time I came to
my senses, I heard myself screaming to myself haaaa, yeeeeepa, I for don shout
goodmorning sir and stretch out my hands keeee…..maybe dat could earn me a job
to my jobless yansh but not to worry soon we are gonna meet and it’s gonna be
business strictly but then I’ll bw smarter…hehe.
Okay enough already of
my tantrums and let’s get straight to business…….indeed Governor Fashola is a
success that we all want to reckon with, celebrate and want to emulate. The truth
of the matter is his personality itself goes before his achievement. Today as I
wait patiently among other media crew, I was expecting to see fleet of escort
cars, siren blaring on high notes to indicate his presence but to my
disappointment it was just his black range rover jeep and another highlander
conveying his aide camp.
The articulacy he
displayed while addressing the congregation was applaud able, his poise defines
a leader who truly is learned, passionate and has a deep knowledge of position
he occupies. I adore him so much. Even among his political contemporaries he is
the best.
Fashola’s
administration has not only blaze the trail but has set a landmark for
succeeding governors of Lagos state bearing in mind that he or she cannot
afford to not outdo the laid down success. I am not saying all our problems
have been totally solved but if for eight years we have these records, electing
a new Governor with even better mindset for another eight years will almost
definitely turn the table around completely.
Strategically he has
been able to shuffle his cabinet with like minds and one basic success achieved
was combating the issues of hooliganism and insecurity in the state, we all
know the notorious places we dare not thread day and night but are not free trade
zones. I cannot begin to talk about his achievements but will acknowledge a few
which has made Lagos state a reference point for others to follow.
Fashola has worked
assiduously in key areas such as power, security, jobs provision, education
transformation, environmental management and the list goes on. This government
has worked hard towards investments in several areas which including provision
of water, intra-modern transformation and housing among others. Lagos state has
about 2000 industrial complexes, 10,000 ventures and about 22 industrial
estates and Lagos state contributes 30% of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product
and it is still the leading centre of commerce in this country.
Eko o ni baje is an
appellation which was coined years ago by the Lagosians themselves and till
date we all strive hard to keep it safe and progressive. We stand to lead and
continue to be the lead others follow and I enjoin all lagosians by birth and
origin home and sundry to endeavour to always keep its growth at heart. It is
our own and will always be our own………Eko o ni baje oooo.
FASHOLA IS
WORKING………LAGOS IS PROGRESSIVE.
